Local History....Geocaching

This week we went on a few geocaching hunts. Through geocaching we have learned about our local history. This week we hiked by a creek. The girls enjoyed trying to skip stones. They also enjoyed looking at the banks of the creek. We could see the layers of soil in the banks and commented how it was like looking back through time. In one layer we saw a lot of shells. In another, Georgia found a pottery shard.

We had a nice walk and we enjoyed looking at how much the wildflowers have grown. Some were taller than Mark! The girls were disgusted with finding trash on the ground. We picked up what we saw. Georgia was particularly disgusted with finding six-pack rings. She has been reading about the impact of litter on wildlife and knew of the dangers they pose. And we found the geocache!

On another geocaching adventure we found ourselves at an old church. Quite beautiful with its ivy covered sides...and the red door!

We visited the old cemetery behind the church and saw a lot of old stones. Georgia liked the obelisk-shaped stone. Olivia thought the anchor stone was neat. We saw stones of local Civil War veterans, too.
